Tips for the tourists who travel to Ukraine for the first time

08 апреля 2016 г.

Ukraine is famous worldwide for its noisy fairs, generous hospitable hostesses, extremely delicious cuisine and fun dances of girls in flower wreaths. This is a truly rich country which has everything for a first-class holiday: seas, rivers, forests, mountains and even its own the one in Europe desert.

Those who visit our country for the first time will be incredibly surprised by beautiful nature, rich cultural heritage, a variety of attractions and cities - so different: each of them seems to have a soul and its own unique character! For guests coming for the first time in our country, we have gathered relevant and helpful information.

Transport

You can move through Ukraine by car, train, or bus. You can also easily use electric transport (trolleybuses, trams) or taxi in cities. But to explore resort areas or villages, you will need to pre-book a taxi or hire a car.

In public transport (buses, trams, trolley buses), you can buy tickets directly inside from conductor or driver.

In some large cities of Ukraine (Kyiv, Kharkiv), there is a subway (closed at night). To travel there, you need to buy special tokens in machine or ticket office, and if you plan to travel a lot, you can buy a card and put a certain amount on it.

It is convenient to travel on long distances by rail. The fastest and most comfortable are Intercity trains that connect major cities of the country. There are also other trains - night, passenger, regional, which will take you to almost any city in Ukraine.

Everyone chooses the most convenient way to travel - someone finds public transport more comfortable, while others do not want to depend on schedules and routes and choose travel by car. If you belong to the second category, be prepared for Ukrainian roads: in small towns and villages they leave much to be desired. But in the big cities and on highways connecting regional centers such problems are much less.

Telephone

Code of Ukraine — +380. Code of Kyiv— +38044.

You can call both from your room at hotel, and from telephone booths that are on the streets, in the post offices. Some of them provide for free calls to landlines in the country. You can also buy an inexpensive SIM card and use mobile services.

Working hours

Stores in Ukraine are open on all days of the week from 9:00 a.m. to 07:00 p.m. Supermarkets are open from 8:00 a.m. to 09:00 p.m. In addition, there are ubiquitous small stalls where you can buy essential goods.

Most bank branches are open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m., Saturday - a short day. Post offices (Ukrposhta) - on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m., some are open until 09:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m., and work seven days a week. As a rule, there is one department in regional centers.

During your stay in Ukraine be sure to visit one of Ukrainian markets: here you can buy the freshest products grown on own land, you will be heartily fed with a variety of treats (but for this you have to buy the food you’ve liked) and say lots of sincere compliments!
